SBE 2024 Beneficiary Frugal Empowerment Foundation

Maiduguri, Borno State

In the heart of Maiduguri, a city steadily rebuilding from the shadows of conflict, Amoo stands as a symbol of quiet strength. A petty trader, she makes a living selling garri at a small roadside stall”a modest business that keeps food on the table for her children and hope alive in their lives.

Every day, Amoo faces the relentless challenges of inflation, insecurity, and the ever-rising cost of buying goods in bulk. Still, she shows up, determined to provide for her family through honest work and perseverance.

In 2024, Amoo’s determination was recognized when she was selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Frugal Empowerment Foundation’s Small Business Empowerment (SBE) Project. With the modest financial support she received, she was able to restock and increase her garri supply, attracting more customers and slightly boosting her income.

I’m very grateful to FEF for remembering people like me, Amoo says. The support helped me a lot, but business is still hard. I still need more help to grow and stand strong.

Like many women in her community, Amoo is not short on courage or work ethic what she lacks are the consistent resources to scale her efforts. The SBE support lit a spark, but lasting impact requires more.

Her story is a reminder: when we empower women like Amoo, we don’t t just support a business we support a family, a future, and the rebuilding of communities. With your continued support, we can turn small beginnings into lasting change.
