Elizabeth is a petty trader

SBE 2024 Beneficiary – Frugal Empowerment Foundation

Elizabeth’s small roadside stand, where she roasts and sells maize, is more than just a business—it’s her lifeline. Each day, she sits beside the glowing coals, turning cobs of maize with care and hoping to make enough to support her family. It’s tough work, made even harder by the rising cost of maize, charcoal, and the uncertainty of daily sales.

Despite these challenges, Elizabeth remains committed. She wakes early, buys what she can afford, and sets up her stand with determination. But making a profit is never guaranteed. Some days, she returns home with little or nothing.

In 2024, Elizabeth’s efforts were recognized when she was selected as a beneficiary of the Frugal Empowerment Foundation’s Small Business Empowerment (SBE) Project. With the support she received, she was able to purchase more maize and charcoal, helping her serve more customers and earn a better income.

“I really appreciate FEF,” Elizabeth says. “The support came at the right time. It helped me, but things are still hard. I still need help to grow and expand.”

Elizabeth’s story is one of quiet resilience. Women like her have the strength and will to succeed, but often lack the resources to go further. The SBE support gave her a start—but there is still work to be done.

With your continued support, we can help Elizabeth and many others like her turn small businesses into lasting sources of stability and hope.
